In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Ina Me Phillips Spears, a daughter, Rita Gragg, son Edward Spears, a granddaughter, Deanna Spears and a great-great grandson, Dean Holzmann.
Mr. Spears was a devoted husband ,father and grandfather. He operated his own chicken farm until he retired at the age of 90. He was a hard worker and loved his family with all his heart. He attended East Flat Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory include sons, Garry Spears and wife Carol of Morganton, Roger Spears and wife Mackie of Lenoir, David Spears and wife Teresa of Lenoir, Keith Spears and wife Debra of Collettsville, a daughter, Cathy Parlier and husband Harold of Lenoir, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A funeral will be held to honor RJ on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 2:00 pm at East Flat Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Mitchell officiating.
Burial will follow the service in the Kincaid Family Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Dereck Spears, Ryan Robins, Gregory Bolick, Scott Herman Kyle LeFevers and Tyler Townsend.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 6:000 pm until 8:00 pm at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home.
