Hello, my name is John F. Cole; I was a close neighbor to Bob for more than a decade.

Even more, over the years starting back in 1975, I became like an adopted son of the family.  When I first moved into the neighborhood at age 9, I was a kid who had not had much leadership in the dad department, Bob changed that.  He stepped in and took me under his wing, taught me to stand tall and to overcome regardless of the opposition.

As a teenager, I would go to work with him where he was a Plant Manager, the only interview I needed was the one when he said “Cole, be ready to go at 5:30AM.”

When you had Bob as a friend, you had a friend.  To me, Bob was a Dad,
To Bob, I was his other son.  Anthony and I were and will always be thick as thieves,
Brothers in every way.  How does one pay tribute for all of that, I plan to spend the rest of my life trying.   Here is how:

I plan to be selfish with some of the things Bob taught me:

For one, every time someone really needs a friend, I will be there, rain or shine.

If someone tries to run over me or someone I care about, they will meet the side of Bob that makes me strong.

If an employer needs to get something done that seems like a miracle, I will perform one, Bob showed me how to get the job done.  Just like some of the muscle cars he has owned, if you are going to do something, do it right.  For those that might recall,
Bob had some cars that very few drivers could even hold in the road because they simply don’t know how to handle that much raw horsepower.

In my teenager years, as I became proficient in martial arts, Bob taught me the psychology of winning, that is why I never a lost a fight, how I defeated opponents in the ring that looked impossible to defeat.  I never felt pain because Bob taught me how
to put it right out of mind, mind over matter.  Most martial arts we see today are just a bunch of pretenders and wanna be’s; Bob was at a completely different level, a level they could only imagine in their dreams.

Lord Willing, in a couple of years, when I cross the stage to accept my Doctoral Degree in Organizational Leadership, I will pause for a second, and will point up to say, Thanks ‘Cool’

Perhaps, most importantly, I have told my son about my Dad, Bob and I am teaching him the things that he taught me – his legacy lives on in each of us.
