Ruth Freeman Wilson

Ruth Paralee Freeman Wilson, 94 of Lenoir NC died peacefully November 7, 2014.

Ruth was born October 12, 1920 in Marshall, NC to the late James Aaron Freeman and Annie Mae Hagan Freeman. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Rev. Alvin Austin Wilson and a brother, Robert Esmond Freeman.

Survivors include sons Alvin A. Wilson Jr. and wife Beverly of Lenoir, Robert F. Wilson of Hudson, granddaughter Jessica Dale of Morganton, sister-in-law Lorene Freeman, nephew Jim Freeman, grand niece Jamie Esch and husband Eric, great grand nephew Riley Davis and special companion Miss Kitty.

Ruth lived her early years in the beautiful mountains and foothills of Madison and McDowell counties. She graduated from Western NC in Cullowee with a Bachelor of Science degree and later received a Teacher Librarian degree from Appalachian State University.

Ruth met the love of her life, Alvin, when she was teaching in Hudson, NC. They married in 1951 and Ruth continued her teaching career as well as helping Rev. Alvin Wilson serve United Methodist Churches throughout Western North Carolina. Alvin Jr. was born in 1953 and Robert was born in 1955 while they were living in Lilesville NC.

They enjoyed many retirement years in Hudson NC before moving to the Kings Creek community of Caldwell County to be close to family. Ruth loved her extended family at Mount Zion United Methodist Church and Hudson United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be held Monday, November 10, 2014 at 3:00pm in Pendry’s Chapel with Rev. Tim Brittain and Rev. Julie Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 pm. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Freeman, Eric Esch, Riley Davis, Jack Norman, Wilson Moore and Roger Poarch.
