She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Russell Reed White, her daughter, Susan Dawn White, and two sisters, Mildred Nichols (Pete) and Jean Barrier (Gene).
She is survived by her granddaughter, Kristin Ring (Roland) of Buckhannon, West Virginia, one sister, Emily Craig (Bill), two brothers, Roy Barnwell (Sandra), and Wayne Barnwell (Margaret), and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She also has her first great-grandchild on the way, a blessing she was thrilled to know about before she passed.
Sue was a graduate of Morganton High School and then began her career as a secretary working in insurance, financial, and healthcare offices for 46 years. She retired from Caldwell County Health Department.
Church was always an important part of her life. At her home church, North Catawba Baptist Church, she taught a girl's Sunday School Class and was church pianist for ten years. They moved to the First Baptist Church of Hudson in 1968 and soon after she was teaching in the 4th grade Sunday School Department and pianist for 19 years. During this time, she was also a GA leader, choir member, and financial secretary.
After retirement, Sue and Russell enjoyed traveling and were able to visit many interesting places in the United States and Canada. Her hobbies included working with flowers, sewing, crafts and cooking. She was a person of great faith and a strong Christian mother and grandmother.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 2, 2021at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Hudson. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the church. Interment will follow in Sardis Cemetery. The memorial service will be officiated by Rev. R. Mack Jarvis III and Rev. Wade Dellinger.
