Sylvia Jane Cannon Oxford

Sylvia Jane Cannon Oxford, 96, of Hudson passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Caldwell UNC Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Oxford was born in Caldwell County to the late John Asberry Cannon and Dora Katherine Watson Cannon. She was a homemaker and the oldest living charter member of Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wade Harrington Oxford; a step-son, Paul Harrington Oxford; two daughters, Patricia Ann Oxford West and Katherine Jerline Oxford.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Allen Oxford and wife Martha, and Mike Oxford and wife Linda; her daughter, Brenda Triplett and husband Doug; sixteen grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Nicky Waters officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be honored to receive friends prior to the service at the church from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers will be James Miller, C.J. Curtis, Dylan Trivette, Mark Oxford, Lee Hudson, and Larry Deal.

The family respectfully requests that memorials be made to Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church, Building Fund, 2822 Poovey’s Chapel Church Road, Hudson, NC 28638.
