

Thurman Ervin Chapman, age 88, of Lenoir, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Mr. Chapman was born December 19, 1936 in Burke County, to the late Forest Suttles Chapman and Izetta Carswell Watts Chapman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Merle Edith Rhymer Chapman, his siblings, twin brother, John Herman Chapman, sisters, Mildred Watts Crump and Durlean Watts Hipps.
Thurman loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his church and his family. He was a faithful member of North Catawba Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and in various other capacities. He was a graduate of Hudson High School, class of 1956. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and was stationed on bases in Texas, Missouri and Illinois, receiving an honorable discharge. Thurman holds the distinction of being the first night school graduate of Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute where he gained certification as a licensed electrician. For many years, he taught aspiring electricians seeking licensure at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute. While he was a man of few words, the sheer quantity of his deeds for others was immense. Thurman possessed an uncanny ability, often referred to by family as "the touch" to fix or repair most anything. In addition to an electrician and mechanic, he was a talented woodworker. Thurman embodied a spirit of helpfulness when he encountered someone in need.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Lisa Chapman Caviness and husband Wayne of Lenoir, Greg Chapman and wife Sandy of Granite Falls, three granddaughters, Anna Caviness, Sara Bellman and husband Wes and Savanna Leonhardt.
Also left to cherish his memory are numerous extended family members.
A service to honor Mr. Chapman will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025 at 1:00 pm at North Catawba Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Wayne Caviness and Rev. David Brown officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm at North Catawba Baptist Church.
Interment will follow the service at North Catawba Baptist Church Cemetery.
