Verna Sadie Tolbert

Verna Sadie Kirby Tolbert, age 92 of Lenoir, passed away, on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at her residence. She was born Sunday, August 26, 1930 to the late Marshall Gilbert Kirby and Eula Winebarger Kirby, in Caldwell County, NC.

In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband Maynard Alonzo Tolbert, sons Myron Wesley Tolbert and Eric Lynn Tolbert, and siblings Irene Kirby Church (Bill), Edith Kirby Presnell (Walt), Oscar Kirby (Ruby), Beatrice Kirby Smith (Sherman), Minnie Belle Kirby Annas (Clarence), and Marshall Hubert Kirby.

Ms. Tolbert is survived by her son Byron Leslie Tolbert, daughter in-law Sharon Blair Tolbert, and granddaughter Hannah Margaret Tolbert. She is also survived by special friends Estelle Tolbert and Alice Suddreth along with a large group of special nieces and nephews.

Sadie will be remembered for being a loving mother and grandmother, and for being a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church where she became a member in June of 1948. There she taught several Sunday School Classes, was a member of the United Methodist Women, serving as President, Vice President, and Treasurer. She took part in “Bible Study Group”, Prayer Chain Leaders, Leadership Nurture Committee (Elderly Visitation), and was named the “Lay Person of the Year”.

The Tolbert family will receive friends Monday, May 1, 2023 from 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church.

The Funeral Service for Sadie will be held at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 2:30 pm with the Rev. Tracy Love officiating.

Burial will follow at in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Mt Hermon United Methodist Church or Amorem Hospice.
