OBITUARY
Walter Ernest McKinney
July 29, 1940 – April 14, 2013
Walter Ernest McKinney, 72, of Patterson passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. McKinney was born in Avery County to the late Carl McKinney and June Johnson McKinney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carolyn Ann McKinney and his brothers, Lester and Auldy McKinney. He was retired from Sealed Air Corporation after 38 years of service and was a member of Harper’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife Barbara Clark McKinney; his son Bobby Allen McKinney and wife Sharon of Lenoir; his daughters, Kathleen McKinney Martin of Lenoir, Shirley McKinney Swanson and husband Joel of Lenoir, and Crystal McKinney of Abingdon, VA; his brothers, Orlando, Dewayne, Ronnie and Glenn McKinney; his sisters, Alma Buchanan, Paulette Hughes and Claudette Mitchell; thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with Reverend Phillip Setzer and Elder Billy Joe Lipford officiating. Burial will follow at Harper’s Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home prior to the service Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Martin, Coty McKinney, Joel Swanson, Patrick Swanson, Joey Lipford and Michael Genwright.
Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the Walter Ernest McKinney family with arrangements.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time, and I am so sorry for your loss. I remember when Bobby and I were growing up together. I was I always so impressed with how he listened to the things that his Father was teaching him. One of those Walt sayings I never forgot… “Keep your eyes and ears open, your mouth shut, you just might learn something”. We never could fool that man for a minute. He was always a step ahead of us! Those were some good times, Bobby.
