

On angel’s wings, Evelyn Veretto Palmer passed away on October 1, 2015 surrounded by her loving family at her home. Evelyn was born in Montague, Texas to Mike and Mary Ricca Veretto on April 12, 1928. She moved to Levelland with her family as a young child, and as the youngest of nine siblings, she grew up surrounded by love. She attended Levelland High School, graduating in the class of 1945. She went to work as a telephone operator before marrying the love of her life, Earl Mixon “Baldy” Palmer on February 11, 1952. Baldy and Evelyn had one child, Billy Mack Palmer. Evelyn and Baldy were the operators of several restaurants including the Dairy Mart and the Spot, of which Evelyn had extremely fond memories. Evelyn was known to talk about her “girls” from her years of operating both restaurants. Her carhops would visit her often and relive the stories of their time at the restaurants. As time went on, Evelyn moved on to help manage the Spot Restaurant with Baldy. They spent many years at the Spot with friends and family before retiring. Evelyn was known to be the life of the party, dancing was of her favorite activities. Whether at a family dance or with her grandchildren, she was known to dance through the night. Evelyn had two grandchildren, Tait and Gina, whom she was extremely proud to call her own. They provided their Mamaw with joy, she provided them with unconditional love. She was lucky to have four great grandchildren that provided her with laughs and memories. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Baldy, her parents, her brothers, sisters and their respective spouses. Evelyn is survived by her son, Billy Mack Palmer and his wife, Pat; her grandson M. Tait Palmer and his wife Alyssa; her granddaughter Gina Riess and her husband Ryan; her great grandchildren, Grayson and Hayes Palmer, Zoe and Max Riess; her sister-in-law and best friend LaVerne Palmer and sister-in-law Mildred Veretto and many many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Rosary will be held at 6:00 pm Sunday October 4 at George Price Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Monday October 5 at St. Michaels Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations to the Michael Frescaz Memorial Scholarship fund at South Plains College or St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
