Herminia H. Cortez

Herminia H. Cortez, 75, of Sundown, passed away June 10, 2015 in Lubbock. Family visitation will be held at George Price Funeral Home on Friday, June 12, 2015, from 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service honoring Herminia will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, June 13, 2015, in the George Price Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Sundown Cemetery. Herminia was born on May 15, 1940 in Matamoros, Tamps. Mexico. She was a lifelong resident of Sundown, Texas. Mrs. Cortez is preceded in death by her parents, Everardo and Tomasa Herrera and her daughter, Maria Magdalena (Maggy) Hernandez. She enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening, and Sundays with her family. Mrs. Cortez is survived by her husband of 54 years, Juan D. Cortez, Sr.; her daughters, Daena (Robert) Saucedo, Marlene (Ramon) Cirilo, Myra (Tino) Chapa, Margot (Rick Moya) Cabrera, Mary Lynn (Hector) Guerrero; her beloved son, Juan H. (Lucinda) Cortez, Jr.; 14 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. She was the oldest of 12 children, her sisters, Gloria, Alicia, Maria, Antonia, Rosa, and Diana; her brothers, Juan, Jorge, Eleno, Lalo, and Martin. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Her grandsons will be her pallbearers.
