

Memorial services for Jimmy Ray “Pop” McFerrin, 64, of Levelland will be 3:00 pm, Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, Levelland, Texas with Reverend Rusty Dickerson, officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 pm. on Monday, March 19, 2012. Cremation services are under direction of George Price Funeral Home, Levelland.
He was born on August 12, 1947 in Littlefield, Texas to Ralph and Lillian McFerrin of Cotton Center, Texas. He learned the value of hard work while working on the family farm. He graduated from Cotton Center High School in 1966. From there he went to West Texas State, earned his bachelor’s degree in 1969. He began coaching at Alamo Catholic in Amarillo, Cotton Center, Spade, Levelland and finally, Brownfield. He was married to Risa Cope of Brownfield, who was the mother of his three children, Amy, Jordan and Adam. He went from coaching to selling insurance. This journey took him from Odessa to Lubbock, where he eventually branched out and opened his own agency. His first office was in Sundown, Texas and he eventually moved to Levelland. From there he opened four more agencies in rural communities. He was then remarried to Darla Stanley of Levelland on March 15, 2003. Pop enjoyed golf, hunting, bridge, sports of any kind, community service, cars, and playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his aunts and uncle: Mary Lou Applewhite of Hale Center, Texas; Tex and Wanda Hunt of Shallowater, Wynnell Lewis of Seminole, two brothers: Doyle McFerrin of Lubbock and Joe of Cotton Center; daughter: Amy McFerrin Garcia and her husband Adrian of San Angelo, Texas; two sons: Jordan McFerrin and Mindy Barnett of Lubbock, and Adam McFerrin and his wife: Courtney of Gilbert. Arizona; his wife, Darla McFerrin of Levelland, his father in law: James Stanley of Levelland, step-daughters: Shanna Perez and husband, Ray of Levelland, and Donya Stinson and E. J. Montez of Lubbock, and ten grandchildren: Kristin, Matthew and Levi Garcia; Devin Shoobridge; Grant, Lillian and Aubrey McFerrin; Ashlyn and Kyla Bridges and J. J. Perez.
