

Mike Benson, 82, of Levelland passed peacefully from our arms into Gods hands on Thursday, August 14, 2014. Services will be 10 am Monday, August 18, 2014 at St Lukes Episcopal.. He was born in Dallas, TX on December 5, 1931 and resided in Austin, TX with his parents W. Seldon Reed and Margaret P. Miller Reed and sister until 1946 when they relocated to Hockley County.
Mike proudly served as a United States Marine in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in February 1954. He was awarded the UN Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal for his service. Prior to serving in the Marines, Mike was a member of the Professional Rodeo Association. He returned to Levelland where he married the love of his life Julie (Lincoln) Benson in February 1961 and raised two children, cotton, cattle, grain, peanuts and a little ruckus now and then. Although a retired Farmer-Rancher, he never stopped working and was a loving husband, father and true friend to all.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Julie of Levelland, a son Link Benson and wife Maggie of Harwood, TX, daughter, Linda Benson of Lubbock, TX, and Grandson Link Andrews also from Lubbock. A sister, Peggy Lincoln and husband Norman of Port St. Lucie, Florida. Two nieces, Cynthia Lincoln and Susan Johnson with husband Eric and great-niece Erika . Numerous Cousins and extended family. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association.
