Born in Croydon, PA to Horace and Gertrude Hopkins in 1931, she was the youngest of 5 siblings. She resided in Bristol Township PA for the first 69 years of her life. She met and married the love of her life John “Jack” Schoell in July of 1955. They had 50 almost perfect years of marriage before Jack passed away in August of 2005. In those 50 years they raised 7 children together and suffered a loss of one baby girl in 1960 and one beloved son William (Billy) in 2020. During that time she took in numerous other children to babysit, one lasting for 15 years with Jeannine becoming her childrens’ honorary cousin to this day.
Moving to ‘the Beach’ in Delaware in 2000 to live the dream of beach living with Jack until his death in 2005. Her life after that transformed to many different things including her ‘ladies group’ that she dined, shopped and partied with for 12 years. During this time she lived on her own for the first time in her life and she thrived as a single 70 something mommom. The last 5 ½ years she lived with daughter Scottie and her husband Bob, who provided her with the daily care she needed for her last few years.
She had a lifelong love of reading, visiting with her grandchildren and their children, following the Phillies and the ongoing saga of General Hospital. Her legendary mayonnaise cake, chocolate chip cookie bars, her love for the beach, that she passed to all children, grands and great grands, her love of music that ranged from Eddie Arnold and Bobby Vinton to Dean Martin and Bob Seger (crooning to the first three and dancing to the last) will forever live on in the memory of her many offspring.
She is predeceased by her parents and all her siblings. She is survived by daughter Scottie Mershon and her husband Robert, daughter Sharon Powalski and her husband Paul, son John Schoell and his wife Denise, daughter Ginger Brounce and her husband Bob, son Jeff Schoell, daughter Jackie Martin and her husband Scott, and daughters-in-law through her late son Bill Schoell, Christine 2000-2020 and Joann 1980-1998. She is also survived by her first three children born to a previous marriage, John Schmitt and his wife Betty, Phyllis Harper and her husband John, and Julie Lavelle and her husband Dave.
She is known as MomMom Jackie to 21 grandchildren, lived through the tragedy of losing grandson, Johnny and a granddaughter, Tracey over the years. There are 47 great grands and 8 great, great grand.
She is also survived by beloved brother in law Frank ‘Butch’ Schoell and his wife Pat and sister in law Sandy Hughes and her husband Bill and numerous nieces and nephews.
She impacted many lives, not to mention the ones she created. She will be missed forever and lives on in the twinkle of little eyes. Until we meet again. . .
Aileen will be laid to rest, along with her husband John (who will receive full military honors), on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 11:00 am, at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA. Please be in line at the main office no later than 10:45 am.
