Andrea was born on April 8, 1943, in Berwick, PA, to Andrew and Ethel (Kreischer) Dendler. For the first ten years of her life, she lived with her grandparents and a litany of aunts at 202 E. 13th St. After her sister, Nancy, was born, she moved in with her parents. Her brother, Michael, joined them three years later.
Her life in Berwick was that of a typical teenager growing up in the 1950s. She loved Elvis, school dances, and William Holden. She graduated in 1961 and was intent on becoming a nurse or a teacher. She attended Rider University for a year, but had to drop out to care for her ailing mother. However, she loved learning and continued her education at Buck County Community College, where she earned an Associate’s Degree while pregnant with her twins.
She married Michael Mihaly in 1967 and they moved to Bucks County. They resided in Yardley, PA and then purchased their first home in Vermilion Hills. In 1972, her son, Mark, was born. Andrea relished being a mother; it was her life’s purpose. Five years later, she welcomed her twins, Matthew and Caryn. Michael and Andrea divorced in 1987 and Andrea started her most difficult job - that of a single mother.
Andrea worked as a secretary and excelled due to her organizational skills, her ability to multi-task, and her friendly demeanor. She worked nights at the law offices of Curtin and Heefner and then found a home within the Pennsbury School District, starting at Pennwood. She eventually became the secretary to Pennsbury High School principal, Naomi Kelly, and ended her tenure in the Human Resources Department. To make ends meet, she worked nights and weekends at Chandler Hall Health Services in Newtown, PA.
She retired in 2009, two weeks after her beloved grandchildren were born, and that’s when she experienced a rebirth. She dedicated her life to helping raise them. Through their infancy to their toddler stages to their school-age years, “Ga,” as she would become known, was there. She changed countless diapers, watched a thousand hours of “Sesame Street,” and walked them to and from school, five days a week. She also started experiencing what life had to offer. She learned to play Mah-Jong, traveled to Europe, and relished her independence. She took great pride in her yard, which was known as “the flower house.” She made new friends, while fiercely maintaining her relationships with those who had been in her life for years. Andrea loved a party - everything was worth celebrating.
She is survived by her children, Matthew and Caryn; her grandchildren, Sarah and Alex; her sister, Nancy Labs (Wayne); her brother, Michael Dendler (Ellen); many nephews, nieces, and cousins; and her dear, loyal friends, too numerous to list. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Mark (1972-1990), and her parents.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 11am until 1pm at Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Rd, Levittown, PA, 19056. A memorial service will immediately follow.
