Born in Scranton, PA, to Marie and John Robert Brittain, Sr., Barbara was a lifelong resident of Levittown. She was a registered nurse for over 40 years, having graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in 1966.
Barbara loved to spend time with her family, and watching all her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow.
Barbara was the beloved wife of William F. Umek for 45 years. She was the loving mother of Francine M. McGonagle (Phillip), William S. Umek (Sheila), Robert F. Umek (Jennifer), and Marianne R. Yobb (Joseph). She was a devoted grandmother to Taylor (Daniel), Katherine (Arthur), Benjamin, and Elizabeth; Zackery (Eli), Liam, and Gavin; Caitlyn (Nestor), Dana, and Emily; Nathaniel, Megan, Matthew, and Ryan. She was a loving great grandmother to Tymir, Isabela, Josue, and Mary. She will also be sadly missed by her brother Jan Brittain (Margaret); her sister-in-law Christine Mohn (née Umek); and numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her late husband William F. Umek, her parents Marie Brittain (née Houser) and John Robert Brittain, Sr., and her brothers John Robert Brittain, Jr., and Patrick Brittain, Sr.
Family and Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 9:00 AM until 9:45 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Church Catholic Church, 66 Levittown Parkway, Levittown, PA 19054, where her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Rite of Committal will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
