Born in Washington, DC, Carol grew up in the Red Rose Gate section of Levittown, PA.. She lived in the Metropolitan DC area for the past 47 years.
While attending Bishop Conwell High School, Carol’s teachers encouraged her to study Fine Arts, as she was gifted in both drawing and oil painting. Having the opportunity to study in Spain during her senior year of high school formulated her passion for international culture, language, and teaching. Carol went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Masters Degree in Linguistics from the University of Pittsburgh.
Fluent in Spanish and French, Carol was employed by various universities early in her professional career. She had the pleasure of teaching English internationally in the Dominican Republic and in Japan. As a long-serving Faculty member in the Intensive English Language Center at Georgetown University, Carol maintained a deep devotion to the academic success and cultural orientation of generations of international students. Actively involved in professional associations, she served on committees and presented at many conferences throughout her career.
Carol had a great appreciation for reading books, newspapers, magazines, and research papers across a wide variety of subjects. Pleasure reading for Carol meant having a book in one hand and a red pen in the other. Reading with the lens of an editor, she would frequently write corrections in the margins to improve both copy and content. She was skilled at solving crossword and other word puzzles, often competing with herself for a better score.
An ardent follower of astronomy, Carol delighted in the wonderment and the science of the constellations. She loved learning about historical and new astronomical discoveries and events. She enjoyed cooking foods from many different cultures and had a great affinity for music from a wide range of genres, with a special fondness for Jazz.
