Charles "Chuck" Fitzsimmons

October 19, 1942 – March 11, 2026
Obituary of Charles "Chuck" Fitzsimmons
IN THE CARE OF

James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc.

Charles John Fitzsimmons, known affectionately as Chuck and sometimes called "Butchie" by his family, passed away on March 11, 2026, in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania. He was born on October 19, 1942, in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and moved to Levittown in 1954. He would spend most of the rest of his life in Fairless Hills.

After navigating the hallways of Woodrow Wilson High School and graduating in 1960, Chuck set sail with the U.S Navy at the tender age of 17. As a Chief Petty Officer, he steered through the waters of the Cuban Missile Crisis aboard the U.S.S. Beale. Not one to abandon ship, he later re-enlisted into the reserves and served for an additional 16 years until 1993—a true dedicated American to the core.

On the homefront, Chuck worked as an motor inspector at U.S. Steel until 1995. He then worked at Columbia Lighting and later for the State of New Jersey. His career was marked by a commitment to hard work and excellence in every task he undertook.

Chuck married Marjorie in 1965, and the couple settled in Fairless Hills, where they raised their family. He was preceded in death by his mother Caroline Vendergrift, his father Charles Fitzsimmons Sr., and his daughter Randy DeOrio. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Fitzsimmons, his children Charles Fitzsimmons (Brenda), Patricia Tenley (Jeffery), Marjorie Beke (Brian), Tara Capriotti (John) his son-in-law, Lee DeOrio. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jason, John, Elaina, Matthew, Rebecca, Robert, Spencer, Thomas, Ryan, Jesse, Joseph, Cecilia and Melody. Additionally, he is survived by his siblings, Marie Fitzsimmons, Robert Fitzsimmons (Annetta) and Carole Smith (Gerald) and many nieces and nephews.

A longtime parishioner of Saint Frances Cabrini Parish, Chuck was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. His faith was an essential part of his life, and he enjoyed volunteering with Bingo at Saint Frances Cabrini and later at Saint Joseph the Worker.

Chuck's dedication to his family was matched only by his passion for his dogs, his devotion to his beloved Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies, and his penchant for cruising the high seas or taking trips to Vegas with his wife. He also loved telling stories on many different topics including American and World history, memories from his youth, the time he spent in the Navy and anything related to his wife, his children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Rd, Levittown, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, with a short service beginning at 8:00pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place the following day, Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 9:30am at Saint Frances Cabrini Church, 325 S Oxford Valley Rd, Fairless Hills, PA 19030. Burial with full military honors will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd, Newtown, PA 18940.
