Born in 1935 in New York City to Charles and Anna Sullivan, Chuck grew up alongside his brother, Jack Sullivan.
Chuck served his country in the US Army, being honorably discharged in 1957. Chuck’s military service had a lasting influence on him. It showed in his attention to detail, his dependability, and the pride he took in always dressing sharply in perfectly tailored clothes.
Chuck lived a full life built around family, hard work, sports, and friendships that lasted a lifetime. His greatest accomplishment was the life he shared with his wife, Patricia, just celebrating their 61st year of marriage. Together they raised five children, Mark, Tracy, Jeff, Carrie, and Jamie, and welcomed their spouses, Bridget, Joel, Sarah, and Tony, as family. Together, they built a family that meant everything to him.
He adored his 11 grandchildren, Samantha, Michael, Shea, Evan, Maeve, Lilah, Patrick, Maggie, Jack, Ashtonn, and Anna, and his 1 great-grandson, Skyler.
Chuck was an all-star athlete in high school and remained active throughout his life, even discovering a love for volleyball at age 50. He was often told he should coach and was even invited to try out for the Team USA senior team. But one of his favorite pastimes was lining up sports trivia for anyone willing to take the challenge.
Besides sports trivia he could “name that song” within a few beats for any hit from the 20s through disco. He said he wished he was a song writer because their songs live forever. Some of his favorites were Dean Martin, Percy Faith, Nat King Cole, and Perry Como.
As a senior in high school, Chuck raised his hand to begin an apprenticeship in the printing industry. He witnessed the trade evolve from pouring molten lead to cast individual metal letters to building and running his own business, Pickwick Press, for more than 50 years.
Chuck’s life spanned from being a city kid playing handball during the Great Depression to becoming a man who enjoyed expansive sunsets in the countryside who demonstrated an example of how to build a good life.
