He is predeceased by his parents Timothy and Catherine Murphy, his wife Veronica Sweeney, longtime companion Romaine, his sisters Margaret Schwartz, Kay Peters, brother Michael, his son Daniel J. Murphy, and grandson David Bodine.
He leaves behind his sister Nora McPhail; three brothers Noel, Paul, and Timothy Murphy; daughters Theresa DiGiovanna of St. Cloud, FL, Maureen Murphy, Kathleen Murphy, and Nora Bodine (David) of Fairless Hills. Grandchildren Chris Blaney, Jack DiGiovanna, Joe DiGiovanna, Jennifer Schultz, Mike Davis, Dawn Bodine, Daniel Murphy, Ryan Murphy, and 20 great grandchildren.
Born in NYC in 1930, he joined the Marines as a teenager and served his country, then moved to Levittown PA to work at US Steel as a Sergeant in Plant Protection. While working at US Steel and driving a school bus for Pennsbury he went to night school to become a realtor. He had a successful career as a Realtor for over 50 years.
He owned several bars and businesses and was known to all as a good friend and a good resource to help anyone in need, whether being business, friends or family.
He spent many years at his home in Ventnor, NJ while enjoying Atlantic City, and was a regular breakfast customer at the Blue Fountain Diner.
Visitation will be held at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 15 from 9 to 12; a service with family eulogies at 12 noon concluding at Resurrection Cemetery following the services.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to Mary's Cupboard, 100 Levittown Parkway, Levittown PA 19054.
