Dan was born on December 27, 1978, in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania. He was, through and through, a proud Philadelphian. He carried the city's grit and unmistakable spirit with him wherever life took him. To family who lived outside the city, his unmistakable Philadelphia accent was a cherished trademark, one that never softened, no matter how many places he called home.
Dan attended Allentown College of St. Francis De Sales, where he developed the business acumen, confidence, and work ethic that would define his career. He possessed a natural gift for leadership and an ability to connect with people that opened many successful professional doors throughout his life.
One of those doors led him to Enterprise Rent-A-Car, where he served as Area Manager. It was there that he met the love of his life, Catherine Anne Gallagher. Their connection was immediate, and together they built a relationship grounded in laughter, a shared love of exceptional food, including the fanciest of cheeses, unwavering support, and love.
Dan and Catherine began their life together in Manayunk, Pennsylvania, where they created countless memories and laid the foundation for a beautiful future. Their journey together then took them to Baltimore, Maryland, where they spent many wonderful years building careers, forming lifelong friendships, and embracing many new adventures.
From Baltimore, they moved to Charleston, South Carolina, where Dan joined Lowe's as Assistant to the Regional Manager. Through his remarkable work ethic and leadership, he steadily rose through the company, ultimately becoming a Store Manager. His career reflected the qualities that everyone admired in him: integrity, accountability, and Philadelphia determination.
Life continued to lead Dan and Catherine on new adventures, including time in Beaufort, South Carolina, followed by a brief stay in Georgia. Dan then received an offer he could not refuse from Miele and returned to Pennsylvania, where he worked his way to National Account Manager. Along with a rewarding career transition, Dan and Catherine welcomed Margaret May Nolan and, later, Audrey Rose Nolan. They made their home on Long Beach Island, New Jersey, which ultimately became the place they loved most. It was there that some of their happiest memories were made, with days spent together by the water, surrounded by family and friends, creating the kind of moments that become lifelong treasures.
Above all else, Dan's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, an adoring father, a loving son, a proud brother and uncle, and the kind of friend everyone hopes to have. His loyalty was unwavering, and his presence unforgettable. He had an extraordinary ability to make people feel welcome and valued. Whether serving as the honorary family bartender, mixing the perfect cocktail, or cooking a masterful Lowcountry boil, Dan made every life he touched better.
Dan was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan whose passion for his hometown teams never wavered. He also loved watching UFC, appreciating the physicality and heart the sport demanded. But the moments he treasured most were the simple ones spent with his daughters. He delighted in making Margaret and Audrey laugh, always knowing exactly where they were most ticklish, and loved playing with them in the water, helping them perform flips and celebrating every splash and smile. Those joyful moments of laughter, love, and adventure will remain treasured memories for his family forever.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly ten years, Catherine Anne Gallagher, and their cherished daughters, Margaret May Nolan (8) and Audrey Rose Nolan (5). He is also survived by his loving parents, Daniel and Theresa Nolan; his sister, Michelle Orlando (Jason); his parents-in-law, John and Diane Gallagher; his brother-in-law, Jack Gallagher (Kathleen); his sisters-in-law, Meg Sokohl (Alex), Jeanne Gallagher (Charles “Tanner” Reed), and his favorite, Julia Gallagher; his beloved nieces and nephews, Dylan Orlando, Gwyneth Zaccagni, Dean Zaccagni, Zach Orlando, John “Jack” Gallagher, Jacob Sokohl, Benjamin Sokohl, and Noah Sokohl; and an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Dan was deeply adored by his family, and his sudden passing leaves an immeasurable and irreplaceable void. While words cannot capture the depth of this loss, his legacy will endure through the love he gave and the family he treasured above all else.
The Nolan and Gallagher families are profoundly grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, kindness, and support from friends, neighbors, colleagues, and the many lives Dan touched. Your compassion has been an immeasurable source of comfort during this unimaginable time.
