Donald John Sheluga

Donald J. Sheluga, age 83, of Levittown, PA died Monday, December 23, 2024 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Langhorne, PA. Don was born on February 3, 1941 in Scranton, PA to the late Chester Paul Sheluga and Anne Sheluga. He is predeceased by his sister Dolores “Dee” Polishan (Frank) and brother Chester “Chet” Sheluga (Anne). Don is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lee Werner, and his two children, Donald Sheluga (Maryann) and Lisa Kline (Jeff), as well as his three grandchildren; Matthew Kline, Elizabeth Sheluga and Emily Sheluga. He will miss his beagle Sox, and will be greeted by Hannah, Tutu and Scoo on the rainbow bridge.

Don was the first in his family to graduate from college, receiving his teaching degree from East Stroudsburg University in 1962. While enjoying a 33-year career as a high school mathematics teacher at South Brunswick High School in Monmouth Junction, NJ, he received his Master’s degree from Rutgers University in 1973 and worked toward a PhD. He brought humor to the classroom, once cutting off the bottom of his tie when a student joked that it was too long.

Don loved spending his summers with his wife at their cottage on Bass Lake in Ontario fishing for bass, swimming, walking the dog and riding his ATV down the forested road and around his property. He enjoyed hunting and watching shows about Alaska - Life Below Zero was one of his favorites. A lifelong fan, Don watched Phillies and Eagles games, rooting them on to win with his neighbors. Friends would stop by for a visit and bring him one of his favorite donuts from Wawa. As an avid texter Don sent daily greetings, gifs, and jokes to his family, friends and neighbors.

More than anything else Don loved spending time with his grandchildren and spoiling them with gifts. He was very proud of Matthew’s achievements in Biology, Elizabeth’s achievements in Business and Creative Writing and Emily’s acceptance at the University of Missouri, showing his pride by wearing college gear from all of his grandkids’ schools.

A viewing for Donald will be held Monday, December 30, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, Pennsylvania 19056. A secondary viewing will occur Tuesday, December 31, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, followed by a service at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest at 12:00 PM at All Saints Cemetery, 291 Durham Road, Newtown, PA 18940.
