Ed was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Dorothy M. Mason; his brother, Walter Mason of Newtown, Pennsylvania; and his parents, Walter D. Mason and Laura Mason of Langhorne, Pennsylvania.
He is survived by his loving sisters, Doris Kriztberger and Carol Mason; his children, Faith E. Anconetani, Hope Compton (Bruce), Walter “Skip” Mason (Monica), and Edmund S. Mason Jr. (Beth).
Ed also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Laura Schilling (Chris), Ryan Compton, Matthew Compton (Kaylyn), Steven Compton (Sofia), Tommy Anconetani, Emily Mason, Olivia Mason, Miranda Mason, and Makayla Mason.
His legacy continues through his beloved great-grandchildren: Colton, Brycen, and Austin Schilling, and Sawyer, Jack, and Penny Compton.
He also leaves behind his faithful doggy companion, Bennett, whose loyal presence brought Dad comfort and companionship for many years.
Ed was a man whose life was defined by his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, his devotion to his family, and his desire to serve others. He was known by all who met him as a kind, humble, generous man who always had a smile to share and time to help someone in need.
Music was one of Ed’s lifelong passions. He began at an early. He proudly played the trumpet in his high school band, Army Band, church and The Tri county band and carried that love throughout his life. Whether playing, listening, or simply appreciating the beauty of music, it remained one of his greatest joys.
Ed further deepened his faith during his time at Prairie Bible Institute in Alberta, Canada, where he studied the Word of God and strengthened his lifelong commitment to Christian service. That experience helped shape the foundation of his spiritual life and his dedication to faithfully serving the Lord in all he did.
He also honorably served his country in the United States military, demonstrating the same quiet strength, discipline, and sense of duty that would characterize the rest of his life. His service was a source of pride for both him and his family.
Ed faithfully served for many years at both Grace Independent Baptist Church & Bensalem Baptist Church as both a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. As a Sunday School teacher, he became well known for rewarding perfect attendance with full-size Hershey chocolate bars. Many children eagerly looked forward to receiving one of Mr. Mason’s famous candy bars, but even more importantly, they remember the love, encouragement, and biblical lessons he faithfully shared each week.
One of the Mason family’s greatest traditions began in 1970, when they started spending summers at Bennett Lake in Ontario, Canada. For more than five decades, the family faithfully returned each summer to enjoy fishing, swimming, boating, campfires, laughter, and precious time together. Those annual trips became a cornerstone of the Mason family, creating countless cherished memories that continue to this day. For Ed, there was no greater joy than having his family together at the lake.
Above all else, Ed loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He provided quiet strength, wise counsel, unwavering integrity, and unconditional love throughout his life. His greatest accomplishments were not measured by earthly success, but by the family he loved, the faith he lived, and the countless lives he quietly impacted through simple acts of kindness and faithful service.
Although our hearts grieve his absence, we rejoice in knowing that Ed is now in the presence of his Savior, hearing the words found in Matthew 25:23, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
His life was a testimony to God’s grace, and his legacy will continue through the generations of family and friends who were blessed to know him.
