Francis Bud Yeager.Former Levittown resident passes on at age 92 after a brief illness.Bud was known as 'Mr. Lawn' for his immaculately manicured green lawns at his Indian Creek home. Bud was a pioneer Levittown homeowner with his wife, Leona and family. They later enjoyed living in Bensalem, PA and at Pennswood Village in Newtown.
A member of 'The Greatest Generation', Bud was a native Philadelphian, his first job being the water boy, keeping the shipbuilders of the battleship USS New Jersey cool with his bucket of fresh water while the New Jersey was being built in dry-dock at the Navy Yard. He lied about his age (17) to serve in WWII aboard a minesweeper in the South China Sea. While a sailor, he was selected to serve as the ships cook, with zero cooking experience; he became a quick learner and in later civilian life, became famous for his hearty vegetable soup.
Bud had a huge circle of friends, many from his lifelong dedication to the gym at the YMCA & LA Fitness. He was a natural athlete, for decades running 7 miles a day on his lunch hour, later 60 laps a day in the pool. Last year at 92, he was the US National Spin Bike Champion. Bud was often cited as the prime example that physical fitness truly does offer you a better and more enjoyable life. His family reaches out here to say a hearty "Thank you' to his many friends who befriended Bud at the gym.
Family includes Katherine (Patrick) Schulte, Francis III (Kathy) Yeager, Christopher Yeager, Leona Yeager, Regina (Michael) Redmond, and Timothy Yeager. Brother Jack Yeager of Levittown.
