Helen was born in Philadelphia, to parents, Vincent (Pat) and Helen Dwyer. She was a member of various organizations and clubs throughout her life including the Third Order of St. Francis, boy scouts, Silver Lake Nature Center, Eucharistic ministry and Geology club.
A devoted wife and mother, she returned to obtain her high school degree while raising a family and completed her degree in 1973. Helen worked third shift at Howard Johnsons and the local Donut shop (Donut Den) to support her family. Never satisfied, mom continued her education and graduated as an LPN in 1977 and then eventually RN. In the winter, mom would often sleep in the attached convent with the religious sisters. She loved being a nurse and grandmother. Mom was a lifelong animal lover and always had a dog or cat by her side. Her greatest and most important legacy was her relationship with God. As a little girl, she always heard God's voice. Mom had a lifelong and daily conversations with Jesus. Unique in her style, mom was both contemplative and charismatic. She spent many hours in silent prayer in adoration at our Lady of Fatima parish, stopping in on her way home from work at 11 until midnight.
She served as an extraordinary minister of the Holy eucharist and was devoted in that ministry. In her later years, mom felt called to intercessory prayer. She prayed unceasingly for family, extended family and strangers alike. She remarked to us in recent years that this was the reason she was still on this earth and she will continue until God calls her home. Helen Catherine Jackson- your mission is complete- Welcome home to the place I have prepared for you!
