James F. Atkins Jr.

James F. Atkins Jr., of Philadelphia, died peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the age of 82. He was born on February 22, 1937, to the late James F. Atkins Sr. and Grace (Syer) Atkins and was also preceded in death by his twin brother, John.

Following a long career as a bricklayer and member of the Local One Bricklayers Union, Jim worked as a courier for 20 years at Capital Health Systems before retiring in 2016. He additionally worked for Meenan Oil for over 25 years and was President of the United Fuel Oil Delivery Service Union. Jim spent time living in Levittown, Bristol and Philadelphia and had many hobbies including hunting, painting and drawing.

Jim was the beloved father of Jamie (Susan) and Verna (Jordan) and "Super Pop-Pop" to his grandchildren Katie (Dan), Kyle (Jessica), and Bobby (Michelle) and great grandchildren, Danny, Travis, Aubrey and Bobby. He will also be sadly missed by his longtime "sweetie", Vera Frate.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 9:00 until 11:00 am at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, where his funeral service will be held at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery, 101 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, Pa. 19006.
