

James R. Gindhart, Sr. passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 8, 2010. He was 72. Jim was born on April 8, 1937 in the East Germantown section of Philadelphia. He attended Dobbins Technical School and later Pierce Business College. Jim served in the Marines from 1954 to 1956. Jim moved to Levittown in 1957 and soon met the love of his life, Ruth. They married in 1960. Jim worked at J.B. Richardson and Sons in Trenton, NJ as a General Manager. He was later employed at East Coast Signs in Bristol, PA as a Permit Expeditor and Purchasing Agent until his retirement in 1996. He was a founding member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish and its bingo. He later became a Eucharistic Minister in the Parish. Jim was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph the Worker Council #4215. He was a manager and coach for his children with the Levittown Continental Little League and the Levittown American Softball League. He was a lifetime member of the Levittown Fire Co. #1 where he enjoyed working bingo and socializing with the patrons for many years. Jim was preceded in death by his parents John and Rosalie (Gorman) Gindhart, his brother John and his sisters Carol Woehr and Kit Wickham. He is survived by his sister Gail Ireland, as well as several nieces and nephews. Jim will be greatly missed by his loving wife Ruth (Keyes), and his children James, Jr. and Susan Gindhart of Hamilton, NJ, Rose and Tom Janiszewski of Toms River, NJ, John Gindhart of Levittown, PA, Mary and Ken Tomlin of Levittown, PA and Katie and Mark Tuomi of Langhorne, PA. He will also be missed by Judie Gindhart and his grandchildren James and Rachel Gindhart, Natalie Grady Schmidt (Greg), Ken Grady, Jr., John, Jr. and Nicole Gindhart, Alison and Matthew Tomlin and Colleen and Erin Tuomi. Jim truly gave meaning to the term "family man". He enjoyed many family vacations to Disney World. His zest to live, even in the final days of his lengthy illness was motivated by his love for his wife, children and grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Church. Interment in Washington Crossing National Cemetery will take place at a later date.
