

James M. Murphy Jr. died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, April 4, 2012. He was 85 years old. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late James M. and Marie Lavin Murphy Sr. and brother of Joseph P. Murphy who preceded him in death. Jim is a graduate of Roman Catholic High School, class of 1944. He was a resident of Levittown, Pa. since October 1957 and was an early parishioner of Queen of the Universe Parish where he participated in many groups and organizations over the last 55 years such as the Men's Club, 6:30 Mass Gang and an Eucharistic Minister Mr. Murphy (Nice Guy Jim) was also very active in his community including his 15 years in Middletown Seniors where he volunteered for Meals on Wheels and at the Statesman Nursing Center to name just a few. During WWII, Mr. Murphy was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army where he served in the Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion Post 945 and Knights of Columbus- St. Joseph the Worker Council, 4215. Mr. Murphy was employed as a sales representative with various companies during his long career in the Food Retailing Industry. Jim is the beloved husband of Helen (Mary) M. (Ratican) Murphy for almost 65 years. He is the loving father of James M. Murphy III, survived by Kathryne T. Murphy of Apollo Beach, Fl, Michael P. Murphy Sr (Susan), of Washington Crossing, Joseph M. Murphy (Terry) of Moorestown, NJ, Patricia M. Deese (Roy) of Bensalem, Kathleen A. Spinosa (Larry) of Harrisburg and Maureen T. Murphy of Levittown Jim is survived by13 grandchildren: James IV, Shealeen, William, David, Michael Jr, Dawn, Krista, Devin, Nancy, Christopher, Sean, Evan and Nicole. He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren Alison, Kaitlyn, Jimmy, Savannah, Talor, Michael, Mason, Leia, Kayel, Colin, Kyler, Kiera and Kaden. He is also survived by his cousin Cass Lavin Spause of Churchville, sisters-in law Anne Murphy of Warminster and AnnaMay Ratican of Williamsport and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many long time friends. The family would like to thank the Chandler Hall Hospice for the care of their Father. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday April 10, from 7:00 until 9:00PM and on Wednesday April 11, from 8:30 until 9:30 AM at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 10 a.m. at Queen of the Universe Church in Levittown, Pa. followed by Rite of Committal at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Queen of the Universe in Mr. Murphy's name would be" More Better" and greatly appreciated.
