James W. Shire

James W. Shire James W. Shire, age 93, of Levittown, died on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at his home in New Hope. Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Shire was a long time resident of the Snowball Gate Section of Levittown prior to moving to New Hope three years ago. He was a member of Queen of the Universe Parish. He was a member of the North Catholic Alumni Association and proudly served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II. Mr. Shire was a PBX installer with Bell of Pennsylvania for 37 years until his retirement in 1983. He was the beloved husband of sixty years to the late Eileen C. Shire and the grandfather of the late Meghan and great grandfather of the late Otello. Mr. Shire is the loving father of Michael Shire and his wife Patricia, Denise Costello and her husband Ronald; Kevin Shire and his wife Lisa; and Peter Shire and his wife Amy. He is the devoted grandfather of Andrew, Colleen, Brendan, Aislie, Jennifer, Matthew, Caroline, Kaitlin, Karly, Kacey, Alyson, Amelia and Andrea and is the great grandfather of Quentin, Aramis, Juliet, Elena, Ethan James, Evan and Lyssandre. He will also be sadly missed by his brother, John Shire and his wife, Renee and his in-laws, Eleanor Shire, Joan Sutcliffe, Charles and Cass Nealon, Jean Nealon and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass Friday, 10:00 a.m. at Queen of the Universe Church, 2443 Trenton Rd., Levittown where friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Rite of Committal will follow in Washington Crossing National Cemetery. There are no calling hours at the Funeral Home. Arrangements are by the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., Levittown.
