Born on July 25, 1949, in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, James lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love.
The son of the late John and Nellie Walakonis (née Pilch), James was a proud graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. After completing his education, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Army. James distinguished himself as a decorated marksman, earning the respect and admiration of his comrades. His sense of duty and commitment to service remained a cornerstone of his character throughout his life.
For three decades, James applied his skills and work ethic as an assemblyman at the 3M Corporation.
James found solace and community at Queen of the Universe Church, where he was an active member. His faith was a guiding light throughout his life, providing him with strength and comfort in times of joy and sorrow.
Outside of work and church, James was a devoted animal lover, particularly fond of his dogs, whom he cherished deeply. He found immense joy in their companionship ensuring they were spoiled with love and daily walks. His compassion for animals extended beyond his own pets, as evidenced by his support of the SPCA, an organization he held dear.
James is survived by his sisters, Lois Vlassenko (Walt), and Susan
Whalen (John). He was also survived by his nephews, Daniel Vlassenko, Thomas Vlassenko (Helen) and Timothy Whalen (Sonja); his nieces, Viki Hudicek (Bill) and Coleen Miller (Donald); and many great nieces and nephews.
The family of James Walakonis extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dougherty Funeral Home for their compassionate care during this difficult time.
James John Walakonis will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace.
