John was born in Waterford, Ohio, to parents, John Leonard Hickman and Viola M Hickman (Wagner). John graduated from Waterford High School in 1952 and went on to work in Pennsylvania at various plants in the steel fabrication industry, automotive repair for Sears, and continued working well into his 80’s helping friends with landscaping and property maintenance projects.
John was an avid outdoorsman and a prolific gardener who kept family and neighbors well stocked with produce and home-canned vegetables, fruit, and jams.
He was a kind, generous man who was loved by and instantly befriended by all those he knew.
John was preceded in death by his wife Joan Marie Hickman (Heiss), sisters(& spouses) Betty (Clyde) Simers, and Irene (Pete) Deem.
John is survived by his children - Rose Marie Hickman, John Randall Hickman (Evelyn), Timothy Russell Hickman (Patty), Rhonda Lee Hickman (David Forbes); Grandchildren- James (Amit), Daniel (Shiri), Aaron (Amy), Lauren (James Shupp), Melissa (Luke Bessellieu), Abigail, John,Shoshanna, Justin(Stephanie), Matthew(Ciara); and 20 great-grandchildren.
