John was born the youngest of three sons to Norma (Nissen) Kett and Ralph L. Kett in Philadelphia, PA on March 25, 1950. John proudly served for the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam from 1969-1971. His natural talents for writing and working with numbers led to his professional calling of running his own business. He purchased Bucks County Cigar and Candy Co. from his Uncle Jack in the late 1970s and had tremendous success in the ever changing industry of tobacco and candy sales. John sold his business in 2010 and continued the remainder of his career working in sales, finishing with Bensalem Cash & Carry maintaining several original accounts.
John wore many titles in life: husband, son, brother, friend. But his most important role in life was being a father to his three daughters, Kristina, Stephanie and Jaclyn. John was an avid lifetime bowler, even achieving the great honor of rolling a 300 in 2006. He encouraged his daughters to pursue their natural talents and pushed them every step of the way to achieve greatness. He loved golf but never quite got one of the daughters involved. Instead he treated his family to the social aspects of Christmas parties and dinners at Torresdale-Frankford Country Club.
John loved his dogs. He had two golden retrievers and eventually "adopted" his daughter Jackie's dog and took care of him until Thayer's recent passing. John also had a passion for sports. He followed Penn State, the Phillies and the Eagles religiously. He had season tickets for the Phillies and Flyers most of his adult life and was always very generous in sharing his tickets with friends and clients.
He will be remembered for his sensitive nature, dry sense of humor and extremely generous behavior.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norma and Ralph, his brothers, Ralph L. Kett Jr. and Richard C. Kett and nephews John W. Kett and Richard Kett.
His legacy will live on through his life lessons, his strong work ethic and his strong will to fight until the end. He is survived by his wife, Susan Kett, his daughters, Kristina Fleming, Stephanie Weaver (Blake Weaver) and Jaclyn LeFevre (Chris LeFevre) and grandchildren Drew, Alex and Mary Kate.
John will be buried with full military honors at Washington Crossing National Cemetery on, Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 1:30 pm. Please arrive at the main office by 1:15 pm.
