

John P. McDonnell Jr., of Levittown, died on Friday, April 5, 2013 at St. Mary Medical Center. He was 85. Born and raised in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, he was an original Levittown homeowner in Bristol Township for 60 years before moving to his son's home 4 years ago. He retired from the Navy after serving 20 years and was a veteran of World War II and Korea. Mr. McDonnell later worked as a union painter for 25 years. He was an avid boater and life time member of the Edgely Boat Club. Mr. McDonnell was the husband of the late Joan (Culbertson) McDonnell. He was the loving father of Patricia J. McDonnell of Langhorne, Susan E. Helbling (the late Charles) of Langhorne and John P. McDonnell III (Kathleen) of Levittown. He will also be sadly missed by 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, his sister Peggy Baskin of Toms River, NJ and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call Wednesday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Newtown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1617 JFK Blvd., Suite 700, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
