Joe was born in Shenandoah, PA on June 12, 1941 to Mary and Joseph (Lucky) Lucas. He was the oldest brother in a family of five children, including sisters Mary Ann and Vicky and brothers Bob and Jim. He graduated from St. Joseph’s University in 1963 with a degree in accounting. He then entered Officer Candidate School for the US Navy in 1964, and served as an officer in the Navy for four years.
While stationed in Norfolk, Joe met nursing student Teresa, and they married in 1968. They moved to Bensalem PA, and had twin daughters, Joanna and Cathy. He was a devoted father who always made time to create special memories that his daughters will treasure forever. He was the epitome of what a father should be, providing a wonderful childhood for his daughters and remaining a source of stability, wisdom, and friendship that was so valued as they became adults.
Joe enjoyed a successful accounting career and eventually joined the firm he would retire from, Morrison Cogen. He thoroughly enjoyed his career, which extended well into his eighties, and was fortunate enough to work with amazing people who became not just coworkers, but great friends as well.
Nothing brought Joe more joy than his family, including his cherished grandchildren, Joseph and Evelyn. He was blessed to be able to spend much of their early years with them, and was a natural as a PopPop. He would patiently spend hours doing any activity the grandkids wanted, whether it was spending hours jumping waves in Sea Isle, playing made-up sports in the backyard, or attending their school and sporting events to show how much he supported them. He was also an incredible father-in-law and friend to his sons-in-law, Justin and Mike.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Joe will always remember his kindness, his smile, and his optimistic spirit. He was a true gentleman who found so much joy in everyday life, and his positivity was one of the things we loved most about him. He was our sunshine.
Joe is survived by his wife, Teresa (Uecker), daughters Joanna (Mike) and Cathy (Justin), grandchildren Joseph and Evelyn, brothers Jim (Julie) and Bob (Maureen), sister Vicky (Ron) and many other friends and family. Joe’s family is forever grateful for the loving and compassionate care he received from his hospice team, especially Teri, who spent countless hours providing care to Joe and reassurance and support to his family.
Calling hour for family and friends will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at St. Ephrem Church, 5400 Hulmeville Rd, Bensalem, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joe’s name to the American Cancer Society or Philabundance.
