Born on April 17, 1952, he was the son of the late George A. Palmer, Sr. and Elizabeth T. “Betty” Palmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George A. Palmer Jr. and his sister, Marie Ostapyk.
Joe had an excellent sense of humor and loved to make others laugh. He enjoyed reading, collecting pens (he had hundreds to be exact), watching football, a good, strong cup of coffee, and watching baseball—especially his beloved New York Yankees. You always knew where you stood with him because he was up front and honest which tended to make him a habitual offender in Facebook jail. Joe loved animals and was known over the years to stop and pick up strays and open his home to animals in need. He had many dogs he loved fiercely over the years but his beloved late Jack Russell companion, Tweeny, was at the top of the list. He also delighted in spoiling his “granddogs” over the years: Trooper, Jenny, Huey, Oscar and Little Richie.
Joe spent over 40 years in the car business including Pitcairn Auto, Peruzzi Nissan and Maaco Auto Painting in Trenton, NJ where he worked most recently up until his illness rendered him unable. In his younger years, he also enjoyed DJ’ing part-time at the Rustic Inn and Irishman’s Pub. However, his favorite title above all was always Dad (“D-Boy”) and Papa Joe.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Courtnie Palmer (Jay); the light of his life, his grandson Cole, who was even nicknamed “TJ” (Tiny Joe) for the uncanny likeness to his grandfather; longtime girlfriend of 30 years and faithful companion, Louann McLaughlin; devoted brother, Matthew J. Palmer (Denise); niece Brianna Palmer; nephews, Matthew Palmer (Jeri) and Christopher Bennett (Chrissy); lifelong friends Charlie, Mike and Tom Tasker; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In his honor, enjoy a good cup of coffee, vote Republican, watch a baseball game or enjoy the company of a four-legged companion.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 2, 2024 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 p.m. at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA.
