Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dolores (Merrigan) Slane, and his first-born child Donna Marie Moore (Slane). He leaves behind his daughter Lisa Anne Slane, son Joseph F. Slane Jr, 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Joe was born in Akron, Ohio and raised in the Kensington section of Philadelphia by his stepparents, Ann and Francis Slane. He graduated North Catholic High School in 1950. Joe served honorably in the United States Army from 1953-1955. He was married to Dolores Slane (Merrigan) from 1954 until her passing in 2014.
Joe was an original Levittown homeowner, living in the Juniper Hill section from 1955 until his passing. He was an original member of the Queen of the Universe Parish where he served as a Eucharist Minister, Lector and Counter. He was also the prefect for the Third Order of Saint Francis in Levittown, PA,
Joe spent the majority of his working life as a machinist at the Budd Plant in Philadelphia, a foreman at Strick Trailers in Fairless Hills, PA and a superintendent at Aluminum Shapes/Esther Williams Swimming Pools in Delair, NJ.
He will be deeply missed and loved by so many.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, Pennsylvania 19056.
A funeral mass will occur Friday, September 13, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Queen of the Universe, 2443 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA 19056. Burial will follow at 1:30 PM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, Pennsylvania 18940. Please be in line at the main office by 1:15 PM.
