Born on May 2, 1931, in Trenton NJ, he was the son of the late Harry and Alice Andrews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Vivian S. Andrews and a daughter, Barbara L. “Bobbie” Palmer.
Raised in Bordentown, Ken graduated from William MacFarland High School in 1948. He attended Gettysburg College where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and earned a Bachelors degree in Economics. After his college graduation in 1952, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force where he was stationed at Amarillo Air Force Base in Texas. Once his active tour of duty concluded in 1958, he served in the USAF Reserves until 1963.
Ken joined the family insurance business, Charles F. Andrews and Associates, and learned from his Uncle Charles. Upon his Uncle Charles’s retirement, Ken then purchased the business, and it became Andrews & Associates. He enjoyed a rewarding and successful career for 40 years.
Ken and his wife Vivian enjoyed antiquing, fishing and traveling taking annual trips to Belize and Runaway Bay Jamaica for over 25 years. He also looked forward to many great years of fishing trips to Canada with his son-in-law Roy. One of his passions besides fishing included collecting and tending to his collection of railroad memorabilia. Those that knew Ken and Vivian certainly can recall their finished basement resembling a pristine railroad museum with hundreds of railroad lanterns, china, locks and passes. He was a trustee of the New Hope and Ivyland Railroad for many years. A gifted trumpet player, he could play anything by ear, a gift he inherited from his mother. Because of this love for music, he traveled the tri-state area as a member of the Shriners Crescent Temple Band in his younger years. He immensely enjoyed being “Pop-Pop” and always instilled in his granddaughters the importance of a good education, fine dining and how to bait a hook. He was beyond proud that all three of his granddaughters were college graduates.
He is survived by his daughter, Virginia “Ginny” Richmond (Roy); granddaughters, Dr. Lauren Richmond (Adrian), Courtnie Palmer (Jay), Raquel Carson (Ross); three great grandsons, Cole Bailey, Logan Carson and Roman Carson; and his companion of twelve years, Anita Hips.
