It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to Kenneth John Merz, Jr., a resilient fighter who bravely battled numerous health challenges following his long and hard-fought victory over cancer. Kenneth sadly passed away on Friday, May 31st, 2024, at the age of 60.
Ken was born on October 23, 1963, Jersey City, NJ and was the son of the late Kenneth John Merz, Sr. and Joan Ann (Hogan). After spending his early childhood in Bayonne, NJ, he and his family moved to Fairless Hills, PA. He was a 1981 graduate of Pennsbury High School.
In October 1991, he married his beloved wife Linda Jean (Shellhamer) and they then planted their roots in Levittown, PA. He was the extremely proud father of Eric Kenneth (Chelsea), and Casandra Lynne Dailey (Corey). Ken spent most of his career working for the Bucks County Courier Times. He was also employed by Lenox China and Amazon. He thoroughly enjoyed working part-time at the UPS Store and Shady Brook Farm as well. He was never afraid of working hard, and took all opportunities to make connections with those in his community.
Ken was an avid sports fan who loved his Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Phillies, as well as collecting and selling vintage sports memorabilia. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, he enjoyed bowling, frequenting his favorite food establishments, and playing with his grandpups, Max and Elvis. Every summer for the past 16 years Ken participated in the Fairless Hills Relay for Life. He walked both as a team member and a survivor.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, children, and sisters Maureen Walsh and Theresa Nuskey (Dan). He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews, along with many other family members and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, where his funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Fairless Hills Relay for Life at www.relayforlife.org/pafairlesshills, a cause that was dear to his heart.
