

Louis F. Bender of Levittown, went home to Jesus on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne. He was 92. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mr. Bender resided in Croydon until 1963 when he moved to Levittown. He retired in 1982 from the Stores Control Department at Rohm & Haas, Bristol Plant after 42 years of service and was a life member of the Long Service Club. He served as a lay chaplain assistant at Lower Bucks Hospital and was a former board member of the Bristol Bensalem Mental Health and Retardation Association. An army veteran of both World War II and Korea, Louis was drafted into the US Army on January 1, 1943. He served in all European campaigns including England, D Day - Utah Beach, Normandy, France, and the occupation of Germany at war's end. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the French medal for the campaign in Normandy. After serving in northern Greenland on an Arctic Expedition in 1948, he was recalled to active duty at the onset of the war in Korea. He then served in 5 campaigns there, having received the Korean medal for service, the army commendation medal, and the Korean Presidential Citation Bar. He separated from the US Army Combat Engineers as a captain in 1953. Mr. Bender was preceded in death by his three brothers: Stanley, Bernard and Robert. Louis was the beloved husband of Sarah A. (nee Wilson) for 69 years and the father of Nancy J. Good (Randall W. Sr.) of Cranbury, NJ, Carol A. Kinney (late John E.), Luanne and Kathleen all of Levittown and Karen of Absecon, NJ. He will also be sadly missed by his 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and his sister, Eleanor Foster of Warminster. Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service on Wednesday at 11:00 am at Hope Lutheran Church, 2600 Haines Road, Levittown, PA 19055. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Louis may be made to Hope Lutheran Church at the address listed above.
