
Lt. Col. (Ret.) Howard J. Woods, Sr., US Army, died on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Saint Mary Medical Center, Langhorne. He was 80. Born in Philadelphia, he was a long time resident of Lower Bucks County. Mr. Woods was employed with Philadelphia Gas Works for 35 years as a construction engineer and retired in March of 1989. He served his country with the US Marine Corps for two years and then transferred to the US Army, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Woods served during the Korean War and in the Vietnam War, where he was a Battalion Commander of Combat Engineers. He received many service awards and medals throughout his career. Mr. Woods was a member of the American Legion Post #960 in Levittown and VFW Post #5542 in Bristol. He also was a proud member of the National Rifle Association and several military organizations. Beloved husband of 22 years to Peggy L. Stinson Woods, he is survived by a sister, Theresa Annis of Florida, and a sister-in-law, Lynne Woods of North Carolina. He was the proud dad of Janet Sands (Jack), Jim Stinson (Ann), John Stinson (Jill), Judy Deacon (Rick), Jayne Tasey (Ed) and Janice Stinson (Vinnie). He will also be sadly missed by his 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, 1:00 until 3:00 pm at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, where his Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 pm. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the American Legion Post #960, 1537 Woodbourne Road, Levittown, PA 19057 or to the American Diabetes Association, 150 Monument Road, Suite 100, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.
