Maria Antonia Lilia Garza Doria Staub, age 96, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2023, with her loving family by her side. Maria was a long-time resident of Bucks County, PA. Maria was born on June 13, 1927, in Linares, Mexico, to parents Eloisa Doria de Garza Rios and Jesus Garza Rios.
Maria was the youngest of 7 siblings and moved to the United States in 1957 after her marriage to John “Jack” Staub. Maria met Jack, a Spanish teacher and pianist, when he visited Linares on his way to study at the University of Guadalajara. Upon meeting Maria, it was love at first sight. Jack ended up staying in Linares for an extended time, after which they had a long-distance relationship with periodic visits, until their marriage one and a half years later. Jack and Maria moved to Levittown, where they raised four daughters.
Maria worked at JC Penney in draperies, a profession at which she excelled, until she retired to help with her many grandchildren. After Jack’s passing in 2000, Maria moved to the Villages of Flowers Mill in Langhorne, PA. More recently, Maria was a resident at Chandler Hall in Newtown and then Sunrise Senior Living in Yardley.
Maria was a parishioner of the Queen of the Universe Church for more than 60 years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and later with friends, within the US and abroad, but she especially enjoyed taking cruises. She loved spending time with her large family and cooking traditional Mexican food. Maria was a sweet, loving, gentle woman, with a great sense of humor. She will be sorely missed.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband Jack Staub and oldest daughter Lily Rodzwic. She is survived by daughters: Rosemary Begley (Francis), Edna Galloway (Gerard), Laura Jennings (Stephen) and son-in law Richard Rodzwic.
Maria had thirteen grandchildren: Nathan, Jenna (Christopher), Alysha, Brianna (Brett), Fran (Ellie), John (Michele), Will, Kathleen, Meghann (Steve), Bridget (Tim), Maria Lilia (Mickey), Stephen and Maria Theresa, as well as four great grandchildren: Rebecca, Andrew, Rachel and Hunter.
A viewing for Maria will be held Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Queen of the Universe, 2443 Trenton Road, Levittown, Pennsylvania 19056, followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 AM.
