

Marie Westermann Calhoun left us on October 4th, 2017. She passed peacefully surrounded by her family. She will be missed by everyone whose life she touched. Marie was born and raised in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. She attended Germantown High School where she met and formed a circle of friends, her high school sorority, who remained close throughout the years. Marie started her career in the banking industry where she met the love of her life, John. They married in 1960, moved to the Mayfair section of Philadelphia where they raised their three beautiful children, John, Michael, and Mary. In addition to being a wife and mother, her social circle continued to grow by forging neighborhood relationships with a group affectionately known as “The Four Seasons”. This group enjoyed travel and adventures together in each of the seasons. Travel was a huge part of Marie and John’s life, and they took advantage of every opportunity. Marie and her husband John also enjoyed a house in the Poconos of Northeast Pa, which became their full-time residence in 1999. Marie became very active in the community and continued to expand her friendships exponentially. Marie enjoyed many aspects of life; family was always first and foremost. Her biggest joys were times spent with her children and her grandchildren. Marie was an extremely creative person that utilized many outlets to transform a normal environment to an extraordinary experience. Marie loved making holidays and get-togethers very special. From culinary talents to her flair with decorations, everything she touched felt like home. Marie held traditions close to the heart and built the foundation of her family. An amazing trait of Marie’s was to make others feel valued and welcome; she was everybody’s best friend. She is preceded in death by her father Otto Westermann (1989), her mother Marie (Kerschbaum) (1957) and her husband of 49 years, John (2009) She will be missed by Elisabeth Westermann as well as her sons John (Glynis), Michael (Karen), and her daughter Mary. She is the devoted grandmother of Duston, Jennifer, Christopher, and Stephanie and her great grandchildren Noah and Lucas. Family and friends are invited to call from 9:15 am – 10:30 am on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at St. Ephrem Church, 5400 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem, Pa where her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Rite of Committal will follow at the Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 480 Norristown Road, Suite 150, Blue Bell, PA 19422.
