

Mitchell M. Shiota died on Monday, March 17, 2014 at Chandler Hall in Newtown. He was 82. Born and raised in Seattle, WA, and formerly of Fort Dix, NJ, Mr. Shiota has been a Lower Bucks County resident since 1972. He had been an active member of Saint Joseph the Worker Parish, Fallsington. Mr. Shiota was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Saint Joseph the Worker Council 4215, Men of Malvern and he was a life time member of the John F. Billington VFW, D.A.V. and DV3. Mr. Shiota retired after 24 years of service from the US Army with the rank of Master Sergeant. He had served in Korea and 2 tours in Vietnam. He was a highly decorated veteran and was the recipient of 2 Bronze Stars. He retired from the USPS, Levittown Branch, in 1991 after 20 years as a Letter Carrier. Afterwards, he worked part time at Galilee Village in Levittown. Mr. Shiota was a former President of "Better Breathers" at Saint Mary Medical Center, Langhorne. He was the loving father of the late Monica Shiota and Jerry M. Shiota, Sr. and grandfather of the late Julia Shiota. Mr. Shiota is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 49 years, Iva and his devoted children, Dennis Shiota and Catherine Coffman (Joseph). He was the proud grandfather of Jenny Nink (Jason); Jerry Jr., Jonathon and Jimmy Shiota; Deanna Plenski (fiance, Dustin Raymond, Sr.); Kyle Lanning; and Aidan, Jared and Jacob Coffman and the great grandfather of Dylan and Derek Nink and Damian and Dustin Jr. Raymond. Mr. Shiota was the brother of Violet Clark and Yosh Shiota and the late Shiro, Roy, Frank and Jackson Shiota; Martha Tasaki; Sumi Sakai and Tomo Mizuki. He will also be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 6:00 until 9:00 pm at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 11:00 am Saint Joseph the Worker Church, Fallsington, followed by the Rite of Committal at Resurrection Cemetery. There will be no calling hours on Friday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the D.A.V., Chapter 117, PO Box 1651, Levittown, PA 19057.
