He will be missed by many cherished friends.
Perry's calling as a helper (and all-around good guy) began at the age of 16 when he started volunteering at the Lower Southampton Fire Company and became one of the youngest Fire Chiefs for that company. His career in law enforcement encompassed almost 40 years of his life. He served as Chief Deputy Sheriff for Bucks County from 2018-2020. In doing so, he came full circle having served as a Sheriffs Deputy at the start of his law enforcement career before joining the Bensalem Police Department and subsequently retiring having reached the rank of Lieutenant. Perry also served on the SWAT Team at Bensalem.
Perry's passion for helping others extended beyond his career as he was a devoted member of the Free Masons and served as Worshipful Master of Harry A Houseman Lodge No. 717 in 2011 and 2012. He was also a grant writer where he utilized his skills and knowledge to assist local counties, fire departments, and municipalities to obtain funding for various projects. He taught numerous emergency management and incident response courses and shared Halloween safety tips at his daughters' elementary schools. The world is a little safer now because of him.
As a history buff, Perry loved to read and his knowledge of the Civil War was unmatched. He loved his trips to Gettysburg and was thrilled to be part of the 150 year re-enactment of the Battle of Gettysburg in July 2013.
Perry was an avid animal lover, especially dogs, and was known to cause trouble by bringing home one to many animals at times but he couldn't help himself. Perry loved to hunt and would go upstate every November during deer season hoping to snag that buck (with limited success). Perry's sweet tooth was expansive, and he took pride in handing out the large candy bars on Halloween. His annual Crab Fests are legendary and will continue on in his memory.
Perry's storytelling ability was unrivaled. Children of all ages would gather around to hear tales of Thump Drag, The Chicken Heart, Herman Biffledicker, Radio-Active Owls with Rabies, The Black Bear from Berne, That Guy, and The Pumpkin People. Thanks to Perry we all look at smashed pumpkins a little differently the day after Halloween.
Perry was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
