Robert J. Scarborough, passed away at the age of 71, on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at St. Mary Medical Center after a year long determined battle with cancer. Bob was born June 29, 1952 in Trenton, New Jersey to the late Russell and Anna V. (nee Worrall) Scarborough.
Bob grew up in Fairless Hills, PA, graduating in 1971 from Pennsbury High School and Bucks County Technical School with a certificate in Baking. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in June following graduation, and completed his basic training at Ft. Dix, N.J. It was only fitting with his certificate in baking that Bob found himself in the kitchen. Asthma that he had as a child was again triggered by flour particles in the air and he was honorably discharged. Bob was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his time in the military.
Bob had a work ethic like no other. He started employment at Brodbeck's Bakery in Penndel and worked various other jobs before finding "the one" to be his lifelong career. Bob spent the rest of his working life as a bus driver for the Neshaminy School District for 37 years, before retiring in April 2022 due to health reasons.
A career as a bus driver was not enough for Bob, as he was not one to sit idle. He always worked several jobs around his employment with Neshaminy, including cleaning the undercarriages of the school buses . Bob soon started working at Sesame Place during the summer time and again found himself in various departments. He began in the Cookie Factory and eventually fell in love with the "Count" while cleaning his Fountain. One of his biggest disappointments was taking a medical leave 2 months before his passing. Everyone who knew Bob was aware of how much he loved Sesame Place and Disney World, especially at Christmas time. He often would say, "Go ahead, say it! I'm a big kid!", and he was.
There was no expiration date on Bob's friendship. Call him and he would drop what he was doing to assist you, day or night. He never knew a stranger. Bob easily followed the Commandment to love others as he was loved. Making people happy gave Bob great joy. He will be missed
Bob was a member of the Jesse W. Soby American Legion Post 148 in Langhorne for 49 years. He looked forward to events when he proudly carried the U.S. flag in the honor guard and color guard. One of his goals was to reach 50 years in membership.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Bob McCobb. He is survived by his brother, William Scarborough; sisters, Trudy McCobb and Patricia Nolan; nephews, John and Scott; and nieces, Caryn and Tracy. He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing from 6 until 8 pm on Friday evening, September 15, 2023 at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, Pa 19056 and again on Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 9 until 10 am, where his funeral service will be held at 10 am. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Richboro.
