Robert (Bob) Zimmerman was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on July 8th, 2025 at the age of 89 years old, surrounded by his family. He was a man of few words, who appreciated the simple things in life. He could often be found enjoying an early morning cup of coffee, working on a crossword puzzle, sitting with a classic book in his hands, whistling one of his favorite tunes, or in the kitchen whipping together one of his favorite meals.
Bob was born in Philadelphia on January 23rd to Karl and Bertha Zimmerman. After graduating from Jules E. Mastbaum High School in Philadelphia, he joined and served proudly in the United States Army for 6 years.
Bob married his wife, Alice Zimmerman, in June of 1961. They settled down in Langhorne raising their daughter, Cathy (Murdock) and their son, Robert. Bob was a mechanic at Willis Volkswagen of NJ for many years. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, trips to the shore, a good game, and spending time with friends and family. Robert retired in 2001 from security at Delaware Valley/Aria Hospital.
Upon retirement, Bob and Alice moved to their own piece of paradise in Punta Gorda, Florida where they resided for 23 years. He enjoyed the tropical atmosphere, swimming, fishing and volunteering at Charlotte County Computer Group, a local Veterans Center, and Fawcett Hospital. He looked forward to when his family would visit.
He was very proud to be a veteran. When people would thank him for his service he would reply, "Well, you were worth it". Bob was introduced to and accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and savior later in life, developing a solid faith at his church, Tri City Baptist, and enjoyed singing hymns all day long.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Karl and Bertha, brothers Rudy, George, sister, Louise, and his loving wife of 63 years, Alice. After losing his love, Alice, Bob moved back north, where he cherished his final months with his daughter, Cathy (Lonnie) Murdock, his son, Robert (Christine) Zimmerman, his grandchildren; Megan (Norton) Brainard, Kelly (Christopher) Zimmerman, Mark (Brittany) Murdock, Allison (Joe) Zimmerman, Fallon (Mitchell) Hembury, Dalton Zimmerman
and 7 great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly. In addition, Bob is survived by his sister Edith Williams.
Although Bob was a man of few words, he enjoyed talking in riddles, an amusing joke, music, going out for a ride, bird watching, a challenging game of Rummikub or cards, sharing faith, and quality time with family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held August 4, 2025 at the home of Robert & Christine Zimmerman from 5-8 pm. Bob and Alice will be laid to rest at Washington Crossings Veterans Cemetery at a private ceremony for the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests contributions in Robert’s memory be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or The Wilderness Society.
