Ronald G. Caponigro, a longtime resident of South Philadelphia, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Known affectionately as Ronnie, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother whose life was defined by compassion, strength, and selflessness.
Born to Sadie and Americo Caponigro, Ronnie was raised with strong family values that guided him throughout his life. He was a graduate of South Philadelphia High School and went on to build a respected career as a Master Draftsman at the Philadelphia Naval Yard. In addition to his professional work, he was an entrepreneur at heart and later founded Capo & Sons Lawn Service, a business rooted in dedication and hard work.
Ronnie shared 40 loving years of marriage with his beloved wife, Anita, until her passing in 2012. Together, they built a close-knit family that always remained his greatest pride. He is survived by his children: Ronnie Caponigro (Veronica), Tara Halikopoulos (Nicholas), and Jason Paul Caponigro; his grandchildren: Danny, Sophia, Isaac, and Vito; and his brother Anthony Caponigro (Carol).
A man of many talents and passions, Ronnie was proud of his Italian heritage and found great joy in cooking traditional Italian dishes—always saving room for dessert, his favorite course. He loved traveling “down the shore” with his family, making wine, and staying physically active. A gifted musician, he played several instruments, including the piano, trumpet, saxophone, and viola. Known for his discipline and quiet determination, he could drop down at a moment’s notice and complete 25 or more pushups, often to the amazement of those around him.
Above all, Ronnie will be remembered as a caring and selfless man who touched more lives than he ever realized. Family always came first, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren—whether sharing stories, laughing together, offering guidance, or simply being present for every meaningful moment. They were the light of his life and his greatest joy. His legacy of compassion, generosity, and strength will live on in all who knew and loved him.
Services will be held privately. Ronnie will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 Sproul Road, Springfield, Pennsylvania 19064.
