

Samuel L. Tortu of Bristol died on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Chandler Hall. He was 80. Born in Bristol, Mr. Tortu has been a life long resident of Bristol. He was employed with U.S. Steel for 37 years until retiring. Mr. Tortu was a member of the Robert W, Bracken, Chester Terchon, Jesse Soby, Liberty Cadets and Reilly Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps and the U.S. Steel Fairless Works Chorus. He was also a member of the Bristol Township Seniors. Mr. Tortu raised and raced pigeons with the Bristol Pigeon Club for many years. He was an avid bowler and Phillies fan and also enjoyed shooting pool with friends and hunting and trapping muskrats along the Bristol Canal. He also had an extensive record collection. Mr. Tortu was the beloved husband of Julia A. (Brennan) Tortu for nearly 35 years. He was the loving father of Steven S. Tortu (Colleen) and David J. Tortu (Heidi) and the devoted grandfather of Steven, Cassie, Ashley, David and Nicholas. He will also be missed by his stepsons Michael Holbrook (Denise) and Michael Paul; step grandchildren Suzanne, Anthony and Tonya; 2 step great grandchildren; his siblings Joe Tortu (Sara), Dina Fox (Dale) and Ester Walko; his brothers-in-law Frank Brennan and Patrick Brennan (Debbie); his sister-in-law Jeannie Brennan (Don); his niece and caregiver Sandra Tortu (Mike Angellilli); numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends and his beloved dog Misty. He was preceded in death by his stepchildren Larry and Denise Holbrook; siblings John Tortu, Frances DiQuattro, Lea Lopez, and Philomena Faragelli and his favorite mother-in-law Othnell Brennan. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at the Assembly of God Church, 343 Wood Street, Bristol where his funeral service will be held at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Bristol Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bristol Assembly of God Church, 343 Wood Street, Bristol, PA 19007.
