With profound sadness, we celebrate the life of Shoshanna "Cookie" Jadoonanan, born on September 29, 1995, in Queens, New York. Though her time with us was far too short, her love, kindness, and gentle spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Shoshana was the cherished daughter of Balram and Joy Samlal. Following the passing of her mother at a very tender age, she was lovingly supported by her father and the unwavering embrace of her extended family, whose guidance and encouragement helped shape the remarkable young woman she became.
A gifted and compassionate young woman, she earned admission to the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, reflecting her dedication, perseverance, and lifelong desire to serve others.
Shoshana leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted father, Balram Samlal; her beloved brother, Aaren; her maternal aunts and uncles, Sintra, Loraine (Shah), Judith (Walter), Sham (Mala), Rajesh (Nisha), and Denish (Seema); her cousins Diane (Scott), Devindra (Amelia), Amar, Catherine, Aakash, Alex, Connor, Aiden, Sarah, Matthew, Michael, and Bianca. She is also lovingly remembered by her paternal family: her grandmother Gloria Samlal; her uncle Jairam (Savitree); and her cousins Pundit Dr. Donny Samlal and Pundit Kevin Samlal.
She found great joy in the companionship of her beloved dogs, Luna and Partner, whose unconditional love brought her much happiness.
In her final moments, Shoshana was surrounded by prayers and the sacred chanting of the Bhagavad Gita, a sacred blessing that signifies a soul's divine journey toward eternal peace.
"And whoever, at the time of death, leaves the body remembering Me alone, attains My divine state. Of this there is no doubt."
— Bhagavad Gita
