William Francis Helkowski

William Francis Helkowski, age 88, of Levittown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 16, 2026, at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, surrounded by his loving family. A family man, veteran, and friend, William lived a life defined by service, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, William graduated from Dobbins Technical High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1958. He served as an Electrician's Mate aboard the USS O'Brien (DD-725), where he developed the technical expertise and strong work ethic that would guide him throughout his life. His honorable military service laid the foundation for a career dedicated to public service and leadership.

Following his military service, William earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from La Salle College and later completed a master's degree at Rider University in New Jersey. He spent most of his professional career with the Naval Defense Industrial Supply Center/Aviation Supply Office in Philadelphia, where he rose to the position of Division Chief in Logistics and Technical Support. After retirement, he continued sharing his knowledge as a technical consultant for General Dynamics at the same location. William was always learning, largely self-taught, and eager to solve problems and help others.

Family was the heart of William's life. He was a devoted father to his five children and found his greatest happiness in watching them grow, attending their sporting events, celebrating their accomplishments, and encouraging each of them to pursue their interests. Whether cheering from the sidelines or simply being there when they needed him, he never missed an opportunity to support his family. As the years passed, that love extended to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immeasurable pride and joy. Outside of family, William enjoyed skiing, fishing, crabbing, golfing, shooting at the range, and gathering with friends for a spirited game of pinochle. He also found great satisfaction in caring for his plants, feeding the birds around his home, and spending time outdoors.

A devoted member of Queen of the Universe Church, William faithfully participated in parish life and generously volunteered his technical expertise whenever needed. He also served as Director of the parish CYO soccer program, helping guide and mentor countless young athletes. Those who knew him will remember his outgoing personality, engaging conversations, and the many stories he loved to tell.

William is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Helen Helkowski (nee Cooke); his children: William Helkowski (Theresa), Thomas Helkowski (Lori), Joanne Guerriero (Alex), and Robert Helkowski (Susie); his grandchildren: Danielle Woodruff (Nick), Kristen Helkowski, Nicole Henry (Rob), Kathryn Phillippe (Nick), Tommy Helkowski, Rachel Kelly (Tyler), Eric Helkowski, Maggie Helkowski, Sydney Helkowski, Bobby Helkowski, and Stanley Helkowski; and his great-grandchildren: Callum, Teddy, Quinn, Ryan, Allison, and Cora. William also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Buddy and Missy, who brought him great companionship and joy.

William is now reunited with his son, Steven Helkowski; his parents Joseph and Regina Helkowski; and his siblings: Joseph Helkowski, Jeanne Wilheim (Arthur), and Rosemary Robinson.

A Viewing will be held at Queen of the Universe, 2443 Trenton Rd, Levittown, Pennsylvania 19056, on July 21, 2026, from 10:00am to 11:30am, with the Family Eulogy taking place at 11:20 am, and his Funeral Mass at 11:30am. His Burial with Full Military Honors will take place at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, 1215 Super Highway, Langhorne, Pennsylvania 19047, on July 21, 2026, at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Fox Chase Cancer Center or the World Wildlife Fund in William's memory.

William's legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply, the lives he touched through his service, and the example he set of integrity, humility, curiosity, and dedication. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
