Born in Philadelphia, Bill has been a lifelong resident of Levittown. Bill was a graduate of Delhaas High School, attended Bucks County Community College and earned his degree in Journalism from West Chester University in West Chester, PA. Bill also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4215.
Bill loved to express himself through his writing. He wrote about himself and his family and even had a book published, “From Where I Sit,” that included many of his essays. He wrote a column for the Bucks County Courier Times and had essays published in Catholic newspapers and magazines. He was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish and then Queen of the Universe Parish.
Bill was predeceased by his parents Walter J. and Anna Mae Zalot, two brothers and their wives Walter J. (Pam) Zalot, Jr. and Joseph J. (Cathy) Zalot. He is survived by two brothers, Michael of Burlington and John (Amy) of Levittown; four sisters, Sister Margaret Zalot of Sisters of St. Casimir in Chicago; Cathy Langan (Bill) of Levittown; Rosemary Bartuska (Mike) of Hamilton, NJ.; and Anne McClelland (Joe) of Douglassville, PA. Bill was also the proud uncle of 17 nieces and nephews and 12 great nieces and nephews. In addition to his family, Bill had many supportive and loving friends who enriched his life as much as he enriched theirs. Most importantly, Bill had two devoted, long-time caregivers and friends: Gabriel Morin who lovingly cared for Bill for 23 years, and Marceline Pierre-Jacques who has been there for Bill for the past seven years.
Family and friends are invited to call Wednesday, September 6, 2023 from 6pm until 8 p.m. at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown. Friends are also invited to honor Bill’s life Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Queen of the Universe Church, 2443 Trenton Road, from 9:30 am until10:30 a.m. with a Memorial Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. Rite of Committal will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.
